For over thirty years Lirica in Piazza has been the most important event of the Municipality of Massa Marittima and more generally one of the most important of the summer in Tuscany. It was born in 1986 to enhance, with a quality cultural event, the “natural stage” represented by Piazza Garibaldi with the churchyard of the thirteenth-century Cathedral of San Cerbone,built in Romanesque-Pisan style, which serves as theater backdrop. The event never suffered interruptions and is held every year from 3 to 5 August. In recent years, moreover, it stands out for its innovative and original proposal that combines the operatic tradition with the use of multimedia technologies, new sets, special lighting effects, created specifically for representation in the square.
